About Our Location
Oliver Brothers Transmissions in Waco, TX has been serving McLennan County since 1951. This location is owned by Rodney Oliver, one of the original owners.
His sons, Sonny and James Oliver manage the location and are 3rd generation transmission repair specialists. Sonny Oliver received his associates degree in Automotive Technology from Texas State Technical Institute, and has been with the company since 1984. James Oliver has been a transmission re-builder since 1979. Oliver Brothers is a family owned business and will only do the necessary repairs, whether major or minor. Transmission repairs can be expensive. But it’s not so much when you consider what’s involved in all of the work completed. Today’s transmissions can be complicated and consist of hundreds of individual components. During a major repair, each one is removed, cleaned, and inspected to exacting tolerances. Any worn or damaged parts are then repaired or replaced. Finally, once the transmission is completely re-assembled, and re-installed. If that’s not enough to justify the cost, there’s something else to consider: Virtually all of today’s automatic transmissions are computer controlled. All of which boils down to one, inescapable conclusion: Sure, transmission work can be expensive…but, dollar for dollar, it’s one of the best values around.
We will first perform a diagnostic service, which includes checking the level and condition of the transmission fluid, road testing your car, diagnosis of the external transmission controls, and computer diagnostic check if needed. This process usually lasts between 20 and 30 minutes.
Minor services can sometimes be performed the same day since they do not involve the removal of your transmission. Major services and/or transmission rebuilding could take several days so that your transmission can be properly removed, reconditioned or rebuilt, and reinstalled.
It is best to consult your owner’s manual for recommended maintenance schedules, but practicing preventive maintenance can extend your car’s and its transmission’s life. We recommend an annual check of your vehicle’s transmission in order to catch little problems before they become big problems.
One of the first things you can look for is technician certification. These certifications cover theory, diagnosis and repair procedures in virtually every area of the vehicle.
